What we do

At SUBMON, we develop projects focused on the conservation, research, and outreach of the marine environment, always with a strong emphasis on social impact and sustainable development. Our work centers on studying and conserving the most threatened marine species and habitats, with marine environmental education serving as a key tool to support and amplify our efforts.

Our work

We take a comprehensive approach that combines science, education, and direct action. Each project represents a step forward in our commitment to marine conservation, carried out with professionalism and scientific rigor.

With over 15 years of experience and more than 315 completed projects, SUBMON has established itself as a national reference in the study and conservation of coastal and marine species and habitats.

Areas of work

Cetacean research and conservation.

We conduct research studies on cetaceans, analysing their distribution, abundance and the main impacts affecting their conservation, integrating artificial intelligence tools to improve their management and protection. We work closely with the fishing sector to study interactions with the Mediterranean fleet and to promote more sustainable management strategies based on scientific evidence.

01

Research and conservation of underwater habitats and species.

We study underwater species and habitats and assess the pressures and impacts they face. We also promote actions aimed at their conservation and restoration, with the goal of achieving sustainable use of the coastal environment.

02

Conservation medicine and fisheries interaction

We apply our expertise in veterinary medicine to reduce the impact of bycatch on marine megafauna species (turtles, seabirds, elasmobranchs). We also work to improve preparedness in Europe for events involving contaminated marine wildlife.

03

Marine environmental planning and management.

We collaborate with Marine Protected Areas, public administrations and coastal communities to improve the management and conservation of protected marine species and areas, ensuring that activities and uses in these zones are compatible with conservation objectives. We also develop action and conservation plans for threatened marine species.

04

Ocean literacy and communication.

We promote ocean literacy by connecting scientific knowledge with society through innovative communication and education strategies. Through participatory experiences, citizen science and specialised training in marine biology and conservation, we foster an informed, critical and responsible relationship with the ocean.
