We start the project “Un mar sense deixalles” (“A sea without waste”) in Barcelona
This educational project, focused on primary school students, is supported by the Barcelona City Council and foresees the participation of 5 schools from Barcelona: Grèvol school, Josep Maria de Sagarra school, La Sedeta school, Rubén Darío school and Voramar school.
The objectives of the project are to disseminate the problem of marine litter among schoolchildren and to encourage schools to take part in initiatives that promote the good environmental condition of their beaches.
To achieve these goals, an activity will be carried out with each of the 5 participating schools. The activity will have two parts: the first one will take place at the schools consisting of a small explanation about what marine litter is, how it affects the marine environment, how can we reduce it and which methodology will be followed during the second part of the activity. This second part will take place at 5 different beaches of Barcelona, where along with the schoolchildren different beach clean-ups will be organized. In those clean-ups, besides removing the litter, students will fill a survey form in order to characterize the litter found (type, amount and weight). All the data gathered in those forms could be useful for the beach management department, promoting the cooperation between the participant schools and the Barcelona City Council in maintaining the good environmental condition of the beaches.
