This digital platform collects the activities and actions that have been developed, together with the Fishermen’s Association of the Port of Llançà, around fishing tourism. Fishing trips, visits to the fish market and activities for educational centres, as well as additional information on the area of Cap de Creus, its natural values and the importance of the fishing sector.

Within the framework of Tramuntana Dolphins, this year we have developed the project “Fishing with dolphins“, which has the support of the Generalitat of Catalonia, the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund  and the Local Action Group for the Fishing Sector of Costa Brava.

As we already announced at the beginning of the project, the general objective has been to reinforce the involvement of the fishing sector in the Cap de Creus area in the conservation of marine ecosystems. On the one hand, the aim has been to promote fishing tourism in the area of Cap de Creus, so that fishing activities can be diversified and pressure on ecosystems reduced while maintaining the value of fishing at the level of territory. On the other hand, it has wanted to promote the reduction of accidental capture or bycatch and access to information on issues of fishing interaction, training fishermen on this issue and in line with the competent administration.

What you will find on the digital platform for Fishing Tourism in Cap de Creus

web turismo pesqueroIn this sense, the website that we have designed is a digital platform accessible to the public in which the activities and actions carried out in the project are included and explained so that the user can consult the activity that interests him/her, book it and live the fishing tourism experience. You can check the website at www.turismepesquercapdecreus.com. Who is it addressed to? To families, groups of friends, educational centres and anyone interested in contributing to a responsible tourism model that is respectful of the local environment.

What can you find on the web? The platform contains general and specific information on fishing tourism in the Cap de Creus area. The website highlights the importance of local products from the area, such as the “escamarlà” from Llançà, as well as the link with the Tramuntana Dolphins project. In addition, it explains the different activities that can be done around fishing tourism:

  • Fishing tourism and outings to sea: it is an experience that allows you to see and live as professional fishermen do and at the same time, it offers the opportunity to spot dolphins. In this case, it is explained how these animals are studied with the photo-identification technique and the catalog of fins of bottlenose dolphins in the area.
  • Activities in the fishermen’s association: visits to the fish market are organized, where you can see how it works, which ones are the most used fishing gear and how they work, observing first-hand the boats in the fishing port. Visits with educational centers are also organized, in order to provide a usually unknown knowledge about the fishing world and thus be able to enrich the didactic content that is worked on in the school.

Fishing tourism as a tool for the conservation of marine ecosystems

Fishing tourism is a whole set of activities, products and tourist or recreational services that are developed around professional fishing. Visits to the fish market, visits to fishing ports, life on board, among others.

How does fishing tourism benefit the Cap de Creus area? It is a very important tool for developing sustainable tourism that allows to know and value the natural, cultural and landscape heritage of the area. Promoting fishing tourism in the Cap de Creus area allows fishing activity to be diversified, reducing pressure on ecosystems while maintaining the value of fishing at the territorial level.

It currently has the participation of the Fishermen’s Association of the Port of Llançà, and the intention is that other fishermen associations in the area may join the initiative in the future.
