This project, which has had the support of the Barcelona City Council, has focused on disseminating what marine litter is and which problems it causes among the primary school students of Barcelona city.

The project has had the participation of 5 schools (Grèvol school, Josep Maria de Sagarra school, La Sedeta school, Rubén Darío school and Voramar school), involving a total of 262 children. Throughout the project, 5 activities/workshops had been carried out, one with each school, consisting of a talk to explain the problem of marine litter to the schoolchildren and an activity to monitor the litter accumulated in different beaches of Barcelona (Barceloneta, Bogatell, Nova Mar Bella, Sant Miquel and Somorrostro). The second part of the activity, which was carried out at the beach, had a great impact on the schoolchildren as they were shocked by the amount of small-scale litter that accumulates on apparently clean beaches.

As an example, in only 5 litter monitoring activities carried out by primary school children, more than 4000 cigarette butts, almost 2500 plastic fragments and more than 350 cotton buds were collected. This fact should make us reflect as society.
