In 2025, the RESILIA project launched its first underwater photography contest to highlight Neptune seagrass meadows, a habitat essential to marine biodiversity and the health of Mediterranean coastal ecosystems. The contest also highlighted the importance of Natura 2000 marine sites for protecting natural heritage and celebrated the rich biodiversity of the Massís de les Cadiretes, Litoral del Baix Empordà and L’Albera.
This first edition focused on the Natura 2000 marine site of the Massís de les Cadiretes, and we can now present the winning images, selected from a large number of high-quality submissions.
Three categories to showcase marine diversity
The contest was structured around three categories, designed to reflect both landscape diversity and the richness of marine fauna and flora found in Natura 2000 marine sites:
- Underwater landscape photography, dedicated to capturing the beauty of underwater seascapes.
- Photography of biodiversity associated with Neptune seagrass meadows, focusing on the species that find refuge in this habitat.
- Marine fauna and/or flora photography, including images of marine species found in different Natura 2000 marine sites, not necessarily linked to seagrass meadows.
Winners of the 2025 edition – Massís de les Cadiretes
The photographs were evaluated based on technical and artistic criteria, as well as on respect for the natural environment, in line with the values promoted by the RESILIA project. The aim was to recognise the creativity of the participants while also encouraging responsible behaviour towards marine ecosystems.

Upcoming editions of the contest
The RESILIA underwater photography contest will continue in 2026 with two new editions: one focused on the Litoral del Baix Empordà and another on the marine area of L’Albera. Dates and details regarding participation for both calls will be announced soon, and we invite all interested individuals to take part.
