Technical Workshop on Sea Turtle Stranding Response in Tamar, Brazil
From the 20th to the 22nd of August, veterinarians from Submon and Widecast were invited to teach a 3-day Technical Workshop on Sea Turtle Stranding for the staff of Projeto Tamar in its facilities of Praia do Forte, Brazil.
Turtle centre of Tamar at Praia do Forte, BrazilThe workshop, entitled “Sea Turtles Ashore”, was attended by Tamar staff coming from different states of Brazil, and included biologists, veterinarians and fishery engineers. Two pathologists, from the Universities of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, were also invited to share their knowledge on histopathology.
Practical session on blood sampling run by Nancy MetteeA number of lectures were included on dead animal response (turtle necropsy, data collection, zoonosis, trauma) and live animal response (fisheries interaction, physical exam, sampling, euthanasia, wound management and blood transfusion). Lectures were divided into theoretical and practical sessions.
