The EUROWILD project (European Oiled Wildlife Response Life-long Learning Development), co-funded by the EU’s Erasmus+ Programme, aims to significantly enhance the EUROWA network. Running from December 2024 to November 2026, the project’s main goal is to improve life-long learning for the EUROWA network, expand the pool of experts, and develop new training courses to better respond to oiled wildlife incidents across Europe.
SUBMON has been an active member of the EUROWA network for many years, and we are thrilled to now be a key partner in this new project. We’ll be working alongside Sea Alarm (project coordinator), ProBird in Germany, VOC Oostende in Belgium, and WWF Finland.
Key outcomes of the EUROWILD project include:
- Development and organisation of new EUROWA Field Specialist and Post-Wash Specialist training courses.
- Creation of a comprehensive Train-the-Trainer Package and an online EUROWA Basic course.
- A two-day workshop for European authorities, focusing on enhancing oiled wildlife preparedness and incorporating volunteers into response efforts.
- The organisation of a full in-person EUROWA Network meeting, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.
- Development of a new Assessment Team training course for highly qualified EUROWA experts.
At SUBMON, we are committed to supporting the principles and standards of the EUROWA network. The EUROWILD project represents a significant step forward in ensuring Europe’s preparedness for oiled wildlife emergencies. With the support of Erasmus+ co-funding, the EUROWA network is well-equipped to further its goal of continuous improvement in training and response.
