From the 19th to the 22nd of November the Natural History Society of the Balearic Islands (Societat d’Història Natural de les Balears, SHNB) hosted the 13th Annual Scientific Meeting of the European Elasmobranch Association in Palma de Mallorca. The different activities of the meeting took place at the PARCBIT Auditorium and at the Palmaquarium.

On the 19th of November the Board of Directors and the Annual General Assembly were held. Here, the incorporation of SUBMON to the Board of Directors of the EEA was announced. Àlex Bartolí, head of “elasmobranch conservation” in SUBMON, took part in both meetings.

From the 20th to the 22nd, at the scientific meeting, over a hundred assistants were able to learn about the latest researches in the fields of conservation and biology of elasmobranches. This year, participants had the pleasure to listen, as key note speakers, to Dr. John A. Musick (Marshall Acuff Chair in Marine Science at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, The College of William and Mary, USA) and Dr. Peter Last (Senior Principal Research Scientist at CSIRO, Australia). Furthermore, other renowned researchers, such as Ramon Bonfil, Sonja Fordham, Bernard Séret, Farid Hemida or Colin Simpfendorfer, presented their respective works amongst more than 35 oral and poster communications.

Special thanks and congratulations to Gabriel Morey, chair of the meeting for the success of this event and for the organization.
