Collaboration with the Science Based Management program of Haifa University, Israel
On June 18th-22nd Submon attended the “2nd Conference on Science-Based Management of Marine and Coastal Resources: Anthropogenic impacts to the Mediterranean Sea”, hosted by University of Haifa and Leon H. Charney School of Marine Science.

Dr. M. Gazo, from SUBMON, conducted the keynote talk on the second day of conference, with an overview of the anthropogenic impacts on marine mammals in the Mediterranean Sea. There were also 15 short presentations from student with updates on their PhD research projects. Manel Gazo is member of the steering committee that coordinates and gives supervision and feedback to the research conducted by PhD students on Mediterranean marine biology from the Science Based Management program of Haifa University.
There was also time to strengthen the relationship with the hosted institutions and the Israel Marine Mammal Research and Assistance Center (IMRACC) with a field visit to their cetacean study-site, sailing along the South coast of the country, and discussing new ways to cooperate in the framework of “top predator” projects: cetacean and sharks conservation and research.

We were very glad for the invitation and wishing to collaborate to implement new projects in the Eastern Mediterranean basin.
