Last week Submon took part in the 3rd conference of the “European Marine Science Educators Association” (EMSEA). The meeting took place in Crete (Greece), organized by the Cretaquarium and the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR).
Submon attended as partners of the SeaChange project, and also presented its project on marine stewardship, in which stakeholders are involved in the conservation of cetacean populations in the stewardship area of Maresme Underwater Canyons. In the presentation, other projects derived from the marine stewardship project were explained, such as #proyectogrampus (survey of Risso’s dolphin populations), with the funding of the Fundacion Biodiversidad, and # PeixDeCustodia (encouraging consumption of fish taken using artisanal fishing techniques from a marine stewardship area) carried out in collaboration with Accionatura and with the funding of the Regional Government of Catalonia.

During the congress a number of workshops and open space discussions were organized, allowing to establish the basis for future projects, and the creation of the Mediterranean Working Group of the EMSEA, in which Submon will take part together with other Mediterranean partners, and which intends to begin activities before the EMSEA 2016 congress. By the way, next year the congress will take place in Belfast (Ireland), at the Titanic Belfast.
